Improving London's competitiveness
We are working to make Europe's number one business location even more successful.
Staying Europe's no.1
London consistently tops polls as the best location in Europe for business. But competition for the world's footloose businesses gets ever tougher, with pressure from both niche players looking to muscle in on London's traditional specialisms, and emerging global super-cities like Shanghai threatening to bulldoze all before them. Fortunately London enjoys many great advantages - the Mayor and the LDA are committed to making the most of them.
Building on our strengths
We are determined to build on strengths and address areas of weakness to preserve London's leading position in business. We benefit from factors such as a great skills base, access to markets and an excellent telecommunications infrastructure, but also have weaknesses, for example in some aspects of quality of life, and pollution. We are working with public and private partners to build on our advantages and take effective action where we need to improve.
Increasing availability of workspace and housing
We are investing to increase the availability of workspace and housing, to help relieve the land pressure that drives high accommodation costs for London's businesses and citizens. We are addressing transport issues to make it easier and cheaper for London to get around. We are lobbying for London both nationally and internationally, to make sure the city doesn't suffer from decisions taken elsewhere. And we are backing innovation, in the belief that big ideas can make a really big difference.
London has been Europe's preferred location for business for almost 20 years. We're working hard to make sure it stays that way.
